Cottonwood update: Adults needed for Friday and Sunday for Cottonwood and open positions on the Cottonwood Committee

Posted on May 2 2024 - 11:45pm

Friday May 3rd we still need more adult volunteers for the cottonwood shifts during the day (maybe those who aren't working or have flexibility).  Please look at the SignupGenius HERE and sign up for a shift or two. More help is needed for the Sunday May 5th load-out as well, so please sign up to let us know that you'll be there.

Also, there are still three empty seats on the Cottonwood Committee that need to be filled, so if this is a position in the troop where you could add your time, talents and ideas, we would love to have you.  If you can do that, please reach out to Nick Palmos (email: cottonwood@troop1001.org) and he can answer questions or get you signed up.  Note: There is a “Shadow Adult” spot to sign-up for Cottonwood. This slot is available for adult leaders to learn the ropes of Cottonwood to be sure we have continuity in the Troop for the event.

Troop 1001 Fundraiser

May 2-5, 2024

Cottonwood Art Festival is a major fundraising event for our Troop that helps defray the costs associated with Scouting and provides an opportunity for the Troop to engage with the community by volunteering our time to the city and artists.

To ensure that our assigned volunteer duties are successful, each scout is expected to work a minimum of eight hours at the festival – wear Troop 1001 green t-shirt (hats and neckerchiefs are optional). All time after eight hours count toward rank volunteer hours. Troop 1001 parents/guardians are expected to volunteer a minimum of eight adult hours during the festival – wear Troop 1001 green t-shirt or Class A Field Uniform. We especially need help with loading artists in on Friday and loading out on Sunday night. The entire Troop is needed to support the Cottonwood Art Festival.

Sign up online using the SignUpGenius link: HERE.

VERY IMPORTANT – The Troop is required to have on file a City of Richardson Volunteer Application for every participating adult. We will need new forms from everyone in the Troop as this is an annual requirement from the City. We will have a table set up at the Troop swim test and we’ll be passing out forms at upcoming Troop meetings.

Wednesday, May 1 (6-9pm): Need 4 adults and 4 senior patrol members to move trailers and supplies from TBC to our site at Cottonwood Park.

Thursday, May 2 (11:30am-9pm): Need 30 adults and 15 scouts to load-in the artists

Friday, May 3 (8:30am-10pm): Need 50 adults and 30 scouts to load-in the artists

Saturday, May 4 (9:30am-8pm) and Sunday May 5 (9:30am-5pm): Need scouts all day to sell water. Need adults all day for booth sitting and various tasks.

Sunday Night (5pm – 10pm) ALL HANDS ON DECK!!!: We need the entire Troop to help artists with load-out. We will be available for artists who request assistance until 10 pm.

Please reach out to the Cottonwood Committee if you have any questions.
