An invitation to staff or participate in the 2024 fall ALT and IOLS,
I am the course director for the fall 2024 ALT (adult leadership training or Leadership Specific Training) and IOLS (introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills).Being key 3 members of your scouting units, you understand the need to have trained adults.Every scout deserves a trained adult.
We are asking for participants to take these courses, as well as volunteers to help staff these two courses.
·The ALT course is October 5th, from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm at First United Methodist Church Richardson (FUMCR).
·The IOLS course is on October 19th & 20th with staff check in on October 18th by 8:00 pm at Camp Wisdom
We are looking for staff to be troop guides or/and instructors for the fall training. We will have other experienced leaders helping you through these positions.Positions mostly are for Troop Guides and back up Troop Guides. Don’t feel intimidated, you will have experienced people leading the way and training you to be a trainer. The only requirement is that you have taken these courses already
To be a participant, all that is required is to be a chartered member of a scouting unit, pack troop, crew, etc, with a up to date YPT.
This can be your way to give back, get involved in Scout training and to give back to those that have paved the way for you in the past.
The FUN part is working with people that have the same heart as you.We work & train together, camping at IOLS in the staff camp with meals prepared for us, and at ALT as staff coming together for a common goal of teaching our future leaders. Meet & get to know other scout leaders and share your knowledge.
Please consider sending your scouting adults to these courses, and thank you in advance for your considerations.
I hope you all can join us for this months work day on Saturday September 21st. We will be playing Mother Nature!
I will have lots of individual containers filled will a mix of Native grass and North Texas native flower seed for each of you to distribute.
Please bring your garden gloves, sun, bug projection and water to stay hydrated. Also, If you have a small hand rake like the one shown below with the seed, please bring it.
Our experiment with the EZ straw last year was not perfect, but I was very happy with the results… so we will continue with that strategy possibly adding some tiering on the slopes if we can get the city to donate erosion bail supplies. We will also plan a second seed planting in the early spring if we can secure the funding for more seed.
I want to give a big shout out to all the scouts and other volunteers that watered our precious plants through September! Thank you all for your help and support!
Scouts and parents will meet at the parking lot of Trinity Bible Church at 8:30 am on Saturday, September 14th to get their route assigments and get into their respective groups.
Please sign up under your patrol leader's name. Click HERE for the signup genius. If your patrol is full you can sign up under another patrol. Parents please provide your phone number when signing up.
Scouts please wear your Class B uniform, and if you desire, work gloves. Adults if you have a green Troop 1001 T-shirt please wear it. We want the neighborhood to know that it is the scouts putting out the flags.
Please "Be Prepared" and bring your own water bottle on Saturday. We will end the event with some ice cream.
The TFC weekly sessions will be by patrol this year. Each week two patrols will be holding Trail to First Class (TFC) sessions before the Monday meetings from 6:30-7.
We are going in numerical order starting with Patrols 1&2. The cycle will repeat into the spring. Check the calendar to see which patrols are set for each Monday.
For the people that missed the parent meeting:.....
Whose Job Is It, Anyway? - John Slaughter email from Feb 2024
"This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody’s job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn’t do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have."
Scouting's gift is everyone's responsibility. Let’s not fall in the trap described in the story.
We were very fortunate to have 10 Eagle scouts last year. Unfortunately, that also meant that we had several VERY involved families move on with their scouts. We currently have another group of 30 Scouts - LIFE (15) & Star (15) ranked - who are Sophomore & Juniors in High School; many who will not be around next year. The Troop needs YOU to step in so we can continue to be successful.
