2024 Winter Camp - We must have adult volunteers for MB counselors and other positions in order to hold camp

Posted on Nov 2 2023 - 8:25pm

We are excited to present the merit badge offerings for the 2024 Winter Camp, January 12-14 at Lake Lavon Conference Center! We have a variety of classes and think the Scouts will have a blast.

The first step in planning is to get our volunteers and merit badge counselors. Once we have the counselors, we will open up class registration. Please complete by November 2

We have three volunteer opportunities:

  • Driver Only - please register to drive and provide seatbelts. Since camp is so close (~45 mins), you do not need to stay at camp.
  • Volunteer at camp - we need six or so adults to help out with managing lost boys, taking photos, delivering snacks, etc.
  • Merit Badge Counselors - critical to the success of Winter Camp! Please select the class and whether you would like to lead or help.
We cannot hold a Troop 1001 Winter Camp (warm cabin with food cooked for you) if we don't have enough MB Counselors/teachers by November 2. If not, we will be forced to cancel ours and use the District Winter Camp option at Trevor Rees Jones (in tents the last week of Dec). Please email wintercamp@troop1001.org with questions.

Adult help needed for Webelos Woods

Posted on Nov 2 2023 - 7:51pm

We are looking for some adult volunteers to help staff the Webelos Woods campout that is coming up November 17-19. We need help on the BB range, the slingshot range, the archery range and with running some branding stations. So any range certified adults and maybe any would badgers looking for a ticket item?  If you would be interested, please reach out to Jason Booker (scoutmaster@troop1001.org) or Stephanie Molina (committeechair@troop1001.org).

Railroading MB Notes

Posted on Oct 22 2023 - 6:55pm
Wondering how to finish the Railroading merit badge that was started at the meeting last week?  Here's what you need to know:
Mr. Lewis, Mr. Booker, and Mr. Chrisman can review your workbooks to see that it’s filled in and for checking off requirement 2a.  Requirements 7b1 and 7b2 will be earned on the campout.

For those boys that cannot make the campout,  you can still finish the merit badge by visiting the Museum of the American Railroad (requirement 7b1) in Frisco [https://www.historictrains.org/] and by riding on the Grapevine Vintage Railroad (requirement 7b2) in Grapevine [https://www.gvrr.com/]. The MB workbook notes and the campout permission slip can be found HERE
