Richardson Christmas Parade! Saturday, 12/1/2018

Hey there, Troop 1001 adults!

There’s a chill in the air, which means it’s time to get into the Christmas spirit!

The troop is going to participate in the Richardson Christmas Parade on the morning of December 1st. The theme this year is Dr. Seuss Christmas and we will make a themed float based on the Lorax and Scouting. The boys are going to make decorations during the November 26th troop meeting including eight Lorax trees for the boys to carry. We were thinking about wrapping some PVC pipe for the stem and making some kind of giant Pom-Poms for the top, but honestly we need your creative input. If you have ideas or materials to offer please let me know. We will also be decorating a beautiful Red Model A flatbed truck with the Lorax, Scouting, Christmas theme (maybe a dome tent and Christmas lights and wreaths). Once again any ideas or materials would be very helpful.

Let me know if you have suggestions or just bring it to the November 26th troop meeting.

Yours in Scouting,

Mike Kilgard

Conservation Project Service Hour Opportunity (for Life Rank) This Saturday, 12/1

Posted on Nov 28 2018 - 10:02pm

Hello Troop 1001!

This coming weekend we have a very exciting service hour opportunity: picking up trash at Breckenridge Park!!! Although this may not seem that exciting, these service hours are conservation-related service hours which means that they count toward the service hour requirement (requirement 4) that star scouts need in order to earn the life rank! If you desire to sign-up, please email me at ford.a.lorenz@gmail.com. There are limited spots, so email me as soon as you can. Here is all of the information:

What we will be doing: Three service hours in which we will be picking up trash in Breckenridge Park. This will qualify for life's requirement four's "conservation-related" service hours.
When: Saturday December 1, 1:30-4:30 p.m.
Where: We will meet at 4698 Breckinridge Blvd, Richardson, Texas. (This is the closest address to the trail where we will start)
Who: Anyone who needs service hours may request to be a part of this. However, priority will be given to scouts who are currently star and need 3 service hours related to conservation. This service opportunity only has three more openings that rely on a "first-come, first-serve" basis (within the bounds of the previous statement).
What to Bring: A water bottle and a bike (This is so we can move around more quickly. If you do not have a bike, we can still try to work something out!)

I hope to see some of you there!

Sincerely,
Ford

Philmont 2020 - Cavalcade or Hiking Trek

Posted on Nov 23 2018 - 1:21pm

Have you ever wanted to ride a horse for a week? Have you ever wanted to visit Philmont without having to hike every day? Do you like the idea of having a horse carry all of your gear, or being able to see Philmont from a different perspective?

If so, then Philmont Cavalcade might be the opportunity for you!  Philmont Cavalcade gives you a full week of horse riding through beautiful Philmont, taking you to the same camps and activities as a normal Philmont trek, while teaching you how to ride and take care of a horse. To top it off, at the end of the week, you get to participate in a gymkhana (aka mini radio), where you can show off the skills you learned and participate in fun games with your horse.

CTX Campout!

Posted on Nov 8 2018 - 11:14pm

Hello Toop 1001-

I have had many requests about being able to attend the CTX campout even though we're past the official deadline.

Good News! They are allowing us a few extra spots to accommodate those who have decided that they would like to attend the campout on November 9-11 at Texas Motor Speedway, but didn't get registered before the deadline.

So, if you have decided you want to attend the campout, in order to guarantee space for your attendance, please go to https://www.troop1001.org/home and register ASAP. All campers will need to be registered online by 6PM on Monday Nov 5.  There is a $30 fee for all scouts and adults that will be attending.  Please pay online at the time of registration. It is going to be a really fun event.  Check out the participant guide that is available on the troop website for all the activities/opportunities that you will be offered throughout the event.

Reminders for Nov 5 MONEY MONDAY:

--$15 cash to your Scout's patrol leader for food
--Signed permission slip (you can find it on the Troop website)
--Payment of $30 fee for each registered Scout and adult (online or by check on Monday)

Also, at this time we do not have enough people signed up to transport our Scouts to/from the campout.  If you can help transport to or from the event on Friday Nov 9 and/or Sunday Nov 11, please register that information online at the CTX registration page (just note that you are driving only, not camping) or email/call me and let me know that you are available to help, how many seats you have available for Scouts and if you are willing/able to tow one of the trailers.  Thank you!
