Please Sign Up - Flags for Memorial Day

Posted on Jun 2 2017 - 7:06am

Thanks to all who helped out with the Memorial Day Flag distribution. With such an abundant show of support we were able to make short work of the routes.  In fact, for a task that normally takes 2 to 3 hours, we were able to complete in about 90 minutes.

Please note, for the flags program, the troop works with the Canyon Creek Home Owners Association Flag Program to distribute flags for Memorial Daythe Fourth of JulyPatriot Day, and Veterans Day. As a result, the troop is able to raise money to help fund activities for the scouts by receiving a dollar for each flag installed.

However, the Troop also receives another dollar for every flag retrieved and stored.  For this reason, we have another fund raising opportunity this weekend. One thing that was made clear after the great show of support this past Saturday, is that the more people that volunteer the less time it takes for all of us to get the job done.

Thus, please consider volunteering at TBC this Saturday June 3 at 09:00 AM to retrieve flags for completion of the Memorial Day segment of the flags fund raiser. There will be donuts provided in the morning, and bottled water during the activity. We are usually completed within three hours, and will meet to wrap up the event with ice cream.

The patrols are responsible for filling the assigned volunteer spots. Please note, Scouts should wear their Class B uniforms or class A uniforms if they do not have a Class B uniform. Scouts sign up under their patrol leaderAdults can sign up to drive for their scouts patrol or under Freebird (adult) patrol. Also, scouts can use the time for community and school volunteer hours. If you cannot sign up on line, please contact Mark Young at 972-358-9005.

Troop 1001 Parents & Adults,

You are all invited to attend our last Troop Committee meeting of the 2016/2017 Scout year next Monday, June 5, starting at 7pm at TBC.

Attached are the minutes from the last Committee meeting for your review. Please let me know if you have an item for the agenda by Monday noon.

The Scouts ended the year strong with their Memorial Day weekend campout to the Battleship Texas & Schlitterbahn in Galveston.

The adults need to finish strong, too, with attendance at our final Committee meeting before the summer.

Best regards,

Bill Sproull

Committee Chair

NEW PLAN!! Galveston Camp Out - Saturday May 27

Posted on May 26 2017 - 12:03pm

In classic May campout fashion, there is a last-minute change of plans.  The Port of Houston tour is cancelled due to mechanical problems.  This enables us to depart later and have the scouts participate in putting out flags.  There is no excuse for having a small turnout anymore!

Help out with flags then arrive 1000am at Trinity Bible Church on Saturday, May 27th. Bus/vans depart at 1100am sharp.

ARRIVE CLEAN! There are no showers on the Battleship so the first opportunity to bathe/shower will be Sea Star Base on Sunday night.

Read packing list on permission slip on what to pack and check the weather. Scouts will still need to bring a substantial brown bag lunch Saturday.

We will return at approximately 200pm on Monday, May 29th to Trinity Bible Church.

Your scout must have turned in BOTH the permission slip and liability form to board the bus. You may fill them out and scan/email them to stephensons1001@gmail.com for your convenience if you were not at the meeting on Monday.

On Saturday morning, do not leave your scout until you have confirmed all forms are in. Bring medications with med form (part of permission slip) if your scout will need medication over the weekend.

Court of Honor Merit and Rank Badges

Posted on May 25 2017 - 9:02pm

Since COH is being held on Battleship Texas, badges earned will be handed out upon arrival from campout on Monday.  The estimated time of arrival is 2 pm.  Please watch for time changes.  There will be a table set up for pick up.
