Coronavirus and Troop 1001

Posted on May 28 2020 - 9:43pm
Hello Troop 1001 Families,

Members of our adult leadership team met on March 14 to discuss our plans for Troop activities in light of the current state of events surrounding the coronavirus situation. It is our opinion that we should be prudent and err on the side of caution when making decisions to either halt or postpone upcoming Troop events. Therefore, in conjunction with most local school districts, government entities and the Circle Ten Council, Troop 1001 will be suspending all activities through the month of March. There will be no meetings for the rest of this month, and our Raney’s Ranch Campout has been postponed until April. Our Troop calendar on the website has already been updated to reflect these decisions.

We are committed to monitoring the progress of this situation, and we intend to decide later in March about activities during the month of April. At this time, we are planning to hold both our monthly PLC meeting and our Parent/Committee Meeting on Monday, March 30 via conference call/online meeting. We will share the conferencing information as the meeting date gets closer. The following is a modified excerpt from the Circle Ten Council’s guidance about continuing our program for the time being:

 How can you keep Scouting?
  • Work on rank advancements, merit badges (consider the Public Health Merit Badge), or the Emergency Preparedness and the Cyber Chip Awards. Take some time to work through the requirements that can be completed at home. For merit badges, work with your merit badge counselor via email, Facetime, etc. (remember Youth Protection training – no one-on-one communication between youth and adult).
  • Do a good turn daily. Look for ways to contribute to your community, while staying safe.
  • Be sure to stay social while being secluded. Reach out to the other families and friends in our Troop. Stay connected, even if it’s just to say hi via a phone call or Facetime.
  • Adult leaders are encouraged to take or catch up on their online training. In particular, renew your Youth Protection Training if it is close to expiring.
  • Here's a link to the Merits of At-Home Scouting page pulled together by Circle 10
Please take care of yourselves, be prepared, and stay informed. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the Troop or our decisions during this time, please feel free to reach out to any of our "key 3" leaders listed below. Otherwise, be on the lookout for more information from us as we do our best to navigate through these next few weeks.

Life Skills Survey

Posted on May 20 2020 - 7:42pm

Hello all,

If you have not done so please have your Scouts fill out the life skill surveys. Younger Scouts may need an adult to help them with this process. It is all online so it is easy to access. This helps us to determine how the program is doing according to the youth. Also it helps to get valuable grants to support the program.

Don't Miss Out! OA Elections and Troop Elections @ May 18 Troop Meeting

Posted on May 15 2020 - 3:36pm

Scouts...don't miss out! Both our Order of the Arrow (OA) Election and our Troop Leadership Election for next year will be held during our virtual Troop meeting on Monday, May 18. We will be running the elections electronically using Google Forms. We will require your name and email address on both election forms in order to participate, and only one vote per Scout will be counted. If by some chance you are able to submit more than one ballot, only the first one submitted will be counted toward each election.

We are only electing our 8 Patrol Leaders and our Senior Patrol Leader for next year at this time. All other positions are decided upon at a later date by our newly elected youth leadership team. The requirements for participating in our leadership elections are below. Please see the Troop Elections FAQ document on our website for details. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Mr. Otte via email at scoutmaster@troop1001.org.

During our yearly OA Election, Scouts are nominated for membership in the Scouts BSA National Honor Society. The OA is comprised of individuals who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives. Scouts are elected by their peers, and all Scouts who meet the following eligibilty requirements will be included on the ballot:
