Popcorn Time!

Posted on Sep 17 2020 - 8:47pm

Hello Troop 1001 Parents and Scouts!!

It is that time of year where we begin popcorn sales! Did you know that your Scout can earn requirements towards certain merit badges for selling popcorn?!?! They can work on requirement 9 under Personal Management, requirements 5a,b,f under Photography, all requirements under Salesmanship and many more.

This fundraiser will be imperative this year for your Scout to participate, since we have not been able to do Cottonwood this year. This can help your Scouts earn 30% of sales directly to their account to help fund their high adventures, campouts, and even their Eagle and other service projects in the community. I have tried to make it as easy as possible on you as a parent by offering several ways for the Scouts to sell popcorn. You can pick up an order form and have your Scout take orders door to door, you can pick up a small amount of popcorn and have your Scout do wagon sales door to door, online direct where you take an order in the app and it ships directly to your customer and we will also have storefront sales. You should have already received an email from Trail's End that I sent out with in the last few days.

The troop has a Philmont crew for July 5-12, 2021 that has availability for both Scouts and Adults.  The minimum age for scout is that they have completed 8th grade before the beginning of camp (so entering 8th grade now and older). The camp fee to attend Philmont fee is $1065, with $100 down payment due immediately to secure a spot.  Please may payment to the Troop Treasurer.

See https://www.philmontscoutranch.org/philmonttreks/ for details about Philmont and the various treks.  If you have any questions, please contact Mike Reisinger.  As of now Philmont is planning normal operations this fall, so this is a great opportunity to experience one of BSA's beautiful and historic High Adventure Camps.

BSA Adult Leader Training / Intro to Outdoor Leader Skills Fall

Posted on Sep 15 2020 - 10:00pm

Get trained on how to be the best boy scout leader you can be!  This is a two-part course, the first part in in a classroom setting which meets twice.  The second part is in the field at a hands-on campout.  Both parts are required to be considered a fully trained adult leader.  This is GREAT content for any new adult member of the troop that would like to know more about scouts and how you can be involved and support the troop.

Flags In - THIS SATURDAY 9/12 @ 8:30am @ TBC

Posted on Sep 10 2020 - 8:54pm
Below please find the link to sign-up for Patriot Day Flags In, which will be on Saturday, 9/12 @ 8:30 am.

Since we're working with a reduced level of "scout-power" to help facilitate social distancing due to COVID-19, it would be great if all the slots were filled, and you do NOT have to sign up under your (your scout's) patrol leader.

Will Otte Eagle Scout Project - August 29 & Labor Day

Posted on Aug 28 2020 - 10:50am
Hello, everyone! I have been working toward the rank of Eagle Scout for several years and am excited to be so close to the completion of my Eagle Scout journey. I am happy to announce that my Eagle Scout project beneficiary will be First United Methodist Church Richardson. This church community has helped me so much over the years, and I can’t wait to give back to them through this project.

Specifically, I will be working to transform a neglected, overgrown outdoor area adjacent to an existing building into a usable fenced storage space for FUMCR's Woodworking Ministry, the Sawdust Brothers. The secure site will also be available to the church and the neighboring YMCA for storage of sports equipment. The project entails preparing the space by taking down an existing dilapidated fence, clearing out the overgrowth and constructing a new, secure fence.

I am planning to begin Phase One (demolition and clean up of existing area) on August 29 and finish the project Labor Day weekend. If you would like to volunteer or
make a donation toward my Eagle Scout project, I would be really grateful. I have appreciated the encouragement of my family, fellow Scouts, Scout leaders and community on the road to earning the rank of Eagle, and I want to thank you for your ongoing support. It means so much to me!
